HEADSHOTS & PERSONAL BRANDING

Where do you take headshot photos?

Headshots can be taken at your home, at my home in Willoughby, in your office or communal space or we can investigate hiring studio space if required.

Do you use natural or studio lighting?

I shoot with both natural and off-camera lighting, depending on the situation.

Do you recommend hair and makeup for headshot photography?

I absolutely believe that investing in professional hair and makeup before your photoshoot will ensure you are looking absolutely fabulous before we even start shooting. You will be more relaxed, confident and ready to pose and your skin will be flawless and radiant. Retouching can do a lot, for sure, but having your skin professionally made-up ensures you complexion is camera-ready, avoids nasty flash reflections and will give a much better outcome. It may seem like a luxury but it will make you feel a million bucks! Even the act of dedicating that time prior to the shoot means that you’re not racing in from a meeting or school drop-off and you’ve allowed yourself time to focus and relax, chat about outfits and just breathe for a minute!

What should I wear?

Headshot photos should be all about you and showcasing your best self, not the outfit you happen to love that month. Clothing should be pretty timeless and classic, with simple tones. Always make sure your outfit fits well, is clean, ironed or dry-cleaned. I can send you a tip sheet on outfit options beforehand and recommend bringing a selection to your shoot to give us some options. Jewellery should be kept to a minimum so it’s not too distracting. The aim is to capture you feeling relaxed, comfortable and rocking the camera.

Do you include retouching on images?

All my final images are professionally retouched to ensure you are looking your absolute best. I work hard to get the images right while we are shooting but retouching may include removal of small blemishes, finessing of flyaway hairs, subtle skin smoothing or teeth whitening if required. The aim is to ensure your images are an accurate reflection of you on a fabulous day, not so fine-tuned as to be unrecognisable. The goal is for friends to not even be able to detect you’ve been retouched, just be jealous about how great you look.

“I hate having my photo taken”

Every single headshot client tells me they hate having their photo taken! I HATE having my photo taken too and understand how intimidating it can be - indeed I had a session in 2021 with Hugh Stewart just to see what it felt like to be on the OTHER side of that big fat lens. I promise it’s not going to hurt and no, it’s not as bad as going to the dentist! I LOVE a chat and part of the joy of this work is meeting fabulously interesting people doing a million different jobs with fascinating lives. We will chat, have a laugh, move around, pose this way and that, try a few things, get you comfortable and I promise we will get flattering, relaxed photos of you!

What happens after the photoshoot?

After the shoot, I’ll go through the images and curate a selection of the very best images. You’ll receive a private online gallery to view the images and select your favourites. Once you’ve selected your final images, I’ll professionally retouch those and deliver them back to you as high-resolution files, ready to download and use on your website, social media or printed collateral material. Turnaround time is usually 7-10 days, depending on the number of images or people being photographed.

How can I pay for my session?

Once we have done the session and you’ve selected your final images, I’ll send you an invoice and payment can be made by direct transfer or credit card. Full payment is required before release of final retouched files.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Do you have professional public liability insurance?

Absolutely and most definitely. $20 million coverage and my certificate can be provided if necessary.

What sort of events do you shoot?

Everything and anything, basically! Corporate lunches, awards nights, company parties, charity events, staff bonding days, industry functions, 40ths, 50ths, 70ths, bar mitzvahs and everything in between. I LOVE a party and event photography is a blast. I aim to capture the essence of your function, ensuring all the key moments, important people, styling of the event, catering and entertainment are all documented.

How do you deliver the images?

I use Shootproof which allows me to create private online galleries, password-protected if necessary that allow me to upload your images as high-resolution and/or web-sized low-resolution files, ready to share with guests, download for use on social media, the company newsletter or media announcements.

What is the turnaround time for delivery of images?

I can work to urgent deadlines if required but generally images are delivered within 48 hours and highlights of key moments can be provided that day or the following morning for evening events.

Do I really need a photographer at my event?

Sure you do …. or you wouldn’t be here! You’ve spent all this time and money organising your event and you want to ensure it’s a huge success. Make sure you have some evidence of it that is not Joe from Marketing’s Iphone images.

I need more than one photographer for my event - can you help?

I have relationships with other event photographers in Sydney if your function requires more than one photographer. We can work together to ensure full coverage of every element of your event.

What sort of photos will you take?

Ideally, you will have provided me with a detailed brief of the images you MUST have, along with the schedule for the day. My job as professional photographer is to ensure I’m in the right place to ensure I capture those key moments, as well as constantly observing the function to identify and photograph candid moments that will ensure a full coverage of the event. This could include awards presentations, keynote speakers, entertainment, room styling, special guests and people enjoying the function.

How much does event photography cost?

Event photography is usually charged on an hourly basis for actual shooting. This fee then includes any prep work and discussions around the function as well as all the post-production, editing and delivery of your images. This fee is usually $275 + GST per hour but half-day and full-day rates can be arranged depending on your requirements. There is a minimum 2 hour coverage.
